Accounting software provider MYOB opened its API platform to developer partners who have created over 150 add-on solutions for MYOB’s network of clients.
As the startup culture cements its position in the global economy and small businesses continue to ply their trade, accounting solutions that make the job of financial management easier for these sectors will always be popular. According to James Henderson’s recent article for Computerworld New Zealand, accounting software provider MYOB is benefitting hugely due to their MYOB API program.
MYOB (Mind Your Own Business) launched its API program in March 2013 for its flagship products AccountRight and Essentials, which cater to small businesses. In the 2 years since, more than 2,000 developer partners have joined the ecosystem, creating over 150 add-on solutions in MYOB’s network.
“The MYOB API program achieves two great outcomes that can only be enabled by cloud accounting technology,” says James Scollay, SME Solutions General Manager, MYOB.
“Firstly, the MYOB API program provides our small business customers with access to integrated end-to-end business management solutions that can transform their business, and were previously only available to large enterprises," explained Scollay. He then continued by explaining that, “Secondly, the MYOB API program encourages and supports innovation by providing a platform upon which technology entrepreneurs can launch and grow their businesses. This allows them to leverage what is often limited funding for start-ups because they can join our API program for free and easily integrate using our world class APIs, as well as instantly access the users of our software.”
The secret for MYOB was building a solid API platform with a comprehensive set of functions. This means that the add-on solutions really are enhancements, rather than gap fillers.
According to Scollay, the API is compatible with any programming language across any platform. The API program has three levels of membership to suit different needs. It is free and open to anyone who wishes to create and integrate add-on solutions to improve the business process for MYOB clients.
