ABN AMRO, one of the largest banks in Netherlands, has launched the first version of its developer portal and a set of commercial APIs. The developer portal will initially provide a number of APIs for commercial clients and basic banking capabilities. The ABN AMRO set of APIs includes the Tikkie API, Corporate Accounts API (closed beta), Batch Payments API (closed beta), and Corporate Payments API (coming soon).
The Tikkie API can be used to generate automatic payment requests, and the links can be shared on a variety of channels such as Facebook Messenger, SMS, and Whatsapp. This API can be used by issuers, merchants, and software vendors, and payments are processed by iDEAL. Payment processing through iDEAL means that clients can make payments without having to install a separate application.
The Corporate Accounts API can be used by applications to retrieve real-time balance information from payment accounts, transaction history, transaction attributes, and general account information. The Batch Payments API allows applications and external systems to automatically transfer multiple payments to ABN AMRO. The upcoming Corporate Payments API will allow applications to initiate a SEPA credit transfer.
The launch of the ABN AMRO developer portal and set of commercial APIs is part of the bank’s preparations for the EU Payment Services Directive 2 (PSD2) legislation which will take effect in 2018.
